Should I run when I’m sick?

Shoot. I officially have the first sickness of the season. Everyone around me at work is sick too. I am scheduled to run 11 mi this weekend – my last long run before the half marathon race. I was actually still planning in trying to do as much as I could tomorrow even if it meant walking/crawling the whole thing. Then I did some googling and found this and many other articles that said the same thing: if you are experiencing below-the-neck symptoms you should not do it. I’ve got head symptoms (sore throat, ear pressure, stuffy nose) but also achy joints & muscles. My cutoff was going to be fever: if I had a fever then I wouldn’t run. But now the experts are saying no no.

I’m worried about what’s going to happen to my training. I don’t know when I’d find the time to do 11 miles during the week. Should I do the 11 miles next Saturday, one week before the actual marathon? I don’t know enough about physiology to know if I would recover enough.

Farmshare Week 17

The fun of having a farmshare is of course, the surprises. When the season started, I assumed something like July would be the peak bounty but we didn’t have a lot of hot weather. The farmer said that the tons of rain at the beginning of the season slowed the crops. Now we are at the end of September when things are supposed to slow down but we are getting the most vegetables.

Farmshare, week 17

This week, we’ve got:

  • beets
  • white eggplant
  • pattypan squash
  • chard
  • some weird, spiky, mystery herb?
  • bell peppers
  • one scotch bonnet pepper?
  • thyme
  • tomatoes
  • jalapenos

The only thing I missed this week was the lettuce mix. It was the first time all season I didn’t get lettuce!

I signed up for the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon, I think

You guys.

I may have registered for a marathon. A full. And – It’s the Walt Disney World Marathon – the mother of all beginner marathons. This race has been sold out since July but something curious happened. I bet Buddha’s looking out for me because it was only yesterday that I said I was considering a marathon.

I got directly to this link, the actual registration page for the site by clicking as if I was registering for a kids’ page. After logging in, I noticed that the button for the full Marathon was available. So I clicked. And kept clicking. Then I put in my credit card information. And suddenly, I got a receipt.

I don’t know how or why this is working and I can’t guarantee that they won’t notice the glitch and cancel my registration, but it was worth a shot. So far it’s showing up in my Active.com history & receipts but my credit card charge is still pending.
